Military secrets contractor moves to Kalihi halfway house

Benjamin Bishop was sent to Mahoney Hale from Honolulu's federal detention center on Friday.

A defense contractor accused of giving military secrets to his Chinese girlfriend has moved to a Kalihi halfway house to await trial.

Court records show Benjamin Bishop was sent to Mahoney Hale from Honolulu’s federal detention center on Friday.

U.S. District Court Judge Leslie Kobayashi last month said Bishop could go to Mahoney Hale once the facility equipped its computers with passwords to prevent Bishop from logging on and using the Internet.

Bishop may only leave the facility for medical reasons, court appearances, attorney visits and religious services. His attorney or an approved third party custodian must accompany him.

Bishop is charged with one count of communicating national defense information to a person not entitled to receive it and one count of unlawfully retaining national defense documents and plans.
