Motorists driving through or by the intersection of Piikoi and Lunalilo streets will encounter a traffic safety event from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Staged by the Honolulu Police Department Community Policing District 1, community groups and employees of Farmers Insurance Hawaii, the event is intended to highlight the congestion that regularly occurs at the intersection as drivers block the intersection and cause traffic back-ups and delays.

Drivers blocking the intersection cause congestion for several blocks down Piikoi and surrounding cross-streets, officials say.

The event is intended to remind drivers about pedestrian safety and to not block the intersection, organizers said, in an announcement.
