Water main break left Kahala Hotel without water
Both the posh Kahala Hotel and Resort and the Waialae Country Club were without water service for several hours following a water main break early this morning on Kahala Avenue.
Water service was restored at about 9:45 a.m., the hotel said. Three other customers in the area, including Waialae Beach Park, were also affected.
Board of Water Supply officials said the break occurred near the intersection of Kealaolu Street and Kahala Avenue, near Waialae Beach Park, at 5:35 a.m.
The break closed Kahala Avenue from Kealaolu Street to the Kahala Hotel. One lane of Kealaolu Avenue was being used to contraflow traffic and police officers are helping to direct traffic. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area.
Hotel guests are able to leave the resort through the Waialae Golf Course, while repairs continue on the main.
The main was originally installed in 1952.
