5 people injured when trains collide at Dole Plantation

Two trains collided at the Dole Plantation in Wahiawa this afternoon, injuring five people, including two children, according to the Emergency Medical Services Division.

Paramedics reported three women, ages 24, 41 and 48, and a 3-year-old boy and a 2-month-old boy were injured.

Paramedics took two people to the hospital. Only the 24-year-old woman was reported in serious condition. The rest of the injured, including the toddler and infant, suffered minor injuries, EMS reported. Three were treated at the scene and refused transport, EMS said.

The crash occurred at 1:44 p.m.

An EMS official told the Associated Press that the two trains weren’t going fast, and Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the trains didn’t have any severe damage.

Dole Plantation’s website promotes 20-minute rides on trains it calls the “Pineapple Express.” The two-mile tours tell the history of pineapple in Hawaii and the founding of the Dole company.
