Kaneohe house fire leaves family of 4 homeless

Two people managed to escape a major house fire in Haiku Village overnight that caused heavy damage to their three-story home.

About 35 firefighters responded to the 12:18 a.m. alarm for the fire on the 46-400 block of Kuneki Way, according fire department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig. Firefighters were on scene five minutes later and had the blaze under control by 12:36 a.m., he said. The fire was extinguished at 1:09 a.m.

Two of four family members were home at the time of the fire and managed to escape without injury, Seelig said. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate is available at this time.
