A Kapaa man died Friday after he collapsed on a fishing boat off Kauai’s south shore, a county spokeswoman said.

The 59-yer-old man collapsed shortly after complaining of feeling faint, spokeswoman Sarah Blane said.

Friends on the boat contacted the Coast Guard by radio, but the man was unresponsive when Coast Guard personnel arrived to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Blane said he was taken to Nawiliwili Boat Harbor, where awaiting medical responders pronounced him dead. Police also went to the harbor, but Blane said foul play is not suspected.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. roughly 8 miles offshore. The man’s identity is being withheld until his family is contacted.
