All mauka-bound lanes and one makai-bound lane of Ward Avenue have reopened as Board of Water Supply crews continue to replace an 8-inch waterline near Hawaiian Electric Co.

One makai-bound lane remains closed.

During ongoing construction work on the Ward Avenue project, a leak was discovered on a nearby waterline, originally installed in 1975, that connects the Neal Blaisdell Center with the Ward Avenue main, the board said in a news release. Water crews dug up the line and found that it required replacement.

The additional work is expected to take continue overnight and possibly into Thursday morning.

The board said its “quick response” averted a potential main break and the need to dig up the road later to connect the waterline to the new main.
