An alert employee is credited with helping to catch a man who allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit bill at a Waipahu business.

Police said a 35-year-old man tried to buy items using a counterfeit bill, but the employee recognized the bill was fake and called police.

The suspect tried to run when officers arrived, but police caught him a short distance away and arrested him on suspicion of forgery and resisting arrest.
