Big Isle police arrest suspect in assault on officer
Big Island police have arrested a 48-year-old Puna man wanted in the assault of a police officer on Saturday.
According to police, the suspect was involved in a domestic abuse and terroristic threatening incident Saturday night at Hawaiian Beaches Park in Pahoa. The suspect allegedly assaulted one of the officer who responded to the incident before fleeing the scene.
The suspect was found Sunday evening hiding in the brush in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, domestic abuse and terroristic threatening.
Police also arrested the suspect’s 27-year-old son nearby for two outstanding warrants and for the alleged burglary of an apartment complex in Hilo.
