A tour bus lays on its side up against a bank of a wash

KINGMAN, Ariz. >> A man whose tour bus was swept down a northwestern Arizona wash with 33 people onboard has been cited for reckless driving.

Joseph Razon is scheduled to appear in Kingman Justice Court on Sept. 10.

If he’s convicted of the criminal traffic violation, officials can seek reimbursement for emergency response under Arizona’s “Stupid Motorist Law.”

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office announced the citation Tuesday.

Razon had taken a group to the Grand Canyon Skywalk on July 28 and was headed back to Las Vegas when he drove into a flooded wash. The vehicle flipped on its side into an embankment, and the passengers escaped on their own uninjured.

A representative for the bus owner has said charging Razon under the “Stupid Motorist Law” would be an insult.
