Wahine soccer team picked seventh in preseason poll
The University of Hawaii women’s soccer team was selected to finish seventh of nine teams in the Big West Conference preseason poll announced today.
Defending regular-season champion Cal State Fullerton was picked to win the BWC with five first-place votes among the league’s nine head coaches. Long Beach State and UC Irvine followed in a projected tie for second.
UH was then preceded by Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara in the voting. After Michele Nagamine’s team, UC Davis and UC Riverside brought up the rear.
Last season, UH went 3-5-1 in the Big West, good for a tie for sixth place, and 8-9-3 overall.
Junior forward Tiana Fujimoto was UH’s lone selection on the preseason 12-member all-conference team. Fujimoto scored eight goals last season.
UH opens the season Aug. 23 at home against UNC-Greensboro.
