Moisture from passing, weak weather systems is bringing a greater chance of windward and mauka showers to the islands, especially the Big Island Saturday.

Trade winds have eased, which should reduce the chance of a red flag brush fire warning today.

But the weaker trade winds could also mean a hot, and possibly humid, day with the chance of afternoon showers caused by daytime heating.

An area of low pressure 350 miles southwest is moving west, away from the islands. It brought some showers to the Big Island Friday and overnight.

Meanwhile Tropical Storm Pewa is moving out of the Central Pacific and could become a typhoon. Pewa was 1,420 miles southwest of Lihue at 5 a.m. Another storm system behind it has little chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Neither system is affecting Hawaii’s weather.

Pewa had 60 mph winds and may become a typhoon in the northwest Pacific within a day or two. The storm was moving west-northwest at 20 mph.
