A surfer, reportedly in his 20s, was found unconscious in the water Tuesday afternoon by fellow surfers in Waikiki near Kaimana Beach, the city Emergency Medical Services Division reported.

The man was apparently surfing at Tonggs surf break, and was discovered at 2:35 p.m. about 100 yards offshore, said Department of Emergency Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright.

Ocean Safety Division lifeguards used a watercraft to bring the man to shore at Kaimana Beach.

Lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until EMS personnel arrived.

The man had no apparent injuries, Enright said.

Paramedics took him in critical condition to a hospital, Enright said.
