Whale king teaches tenacity
"Kohola King of the Whales," authored by Vince Daubenspeck and illustrated by Don Robinson (Island Heritage, $14.95), touches upon issues of strength, courage, rejection and loneliness.
Kekela goes on an adventure with his grandpa and hears the tale of Kohola, king of the whales.
Kohola is born with extra-long fins, which causes him to be clumsy and teased.
While the young whales played together, Kohola went off on his own to explore the vast ocean, practicing leaps and finding new adventures.
Kohola grows stronger, wiser and aids his family and friends when they encounter trouble, earning him the title of "king of the whales."
It’s a charming tale with a classic message of perseverance and a positive lesson about overcoming bullying.
