Woman injured after jump from Maunawili Falls
Fire rescue personnel airlifted a woman in her 20s from the Maunawili Falls trail Sunday morning after she jumped about 70 feet from the top the falls and reported lower back pain and loss of feeling in her legs and feet, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
A hiking group used a cell phone to report the incident just after 11 a.m.,
Capt. Carlton Yamada said. He said the woman jumped from the upper level of rocks into the pond below and reported her apparent injuries to friends.
The woman?s condition had not improved by the time rescue personnel reached her, so she was placed on a spinal immobilization board and airlifted off the trail, Yamada said. Emergency Medical Services responders began caring for the woman around noon.
