Maui emergency officials Thursday rescued a 30-year-old man who got separated from his windsurf board at Hookipa Beach Park.

An Ocean Safety lifeguard on a rescue board went out at 3:09 a.m., got the male and brought him to shore. Firefighters carried the victim along the rocky shoreline and trail to awaiting medics.

He was then transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.
