Sands ordered to pay $1 million to in legal fees
LAS VEGAS >> A judge is awarding a Hong Kong businessman who sued Las Vegas Sands Corp. more than $1 million to cover his expenses for the six-week trial.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/175m7sT) Clark County District Judge Rob Bare announced his decision Wednesday.
The $1.03 million award is 10 percent less than what plaintiff Richard Suen had asked for. Sands had asked for a 90 percent discount on Suen’s stated expenses.
About half the amount went toward constructing and presenting a slideshow of evidence and arguments.
Richard Suen was awarded $70 million this spring by a jury who believed he helped Sands win a contract in the gambling enclave of Macau but was stiffed on the payment. Sands says Suen did nothing to help, and the company is planning an appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court.
