A surfer rode a wave at Ehukai Beach Park, also known as Banzai Pipeline, this morning.
National Weather Service has lifted a high surf advisory for the north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and north-facing shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai.
Waves of about 10 to 15 feet hit the north shores of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Molokai today, while Kauai’s leeward side saw waves of about 8 to 12 feet.
But the advisory, which had been extended to 6 p.m. today, was lifted earlier in the afternoon as the swell decreased.
Today’s high surf led to 10 rescues on Oahu’s North Shore and four on west-side beaches, mainly Makaha Beach, as of 3:30 p.m.
City Emergency Medical Services officials said that three people were rescued by lifeguards and Honolulu Fire Department personnel about noon after they were knocked off a ledge at Sharks Cove and into the ocean. Two women, ages 19 and 20, were in serious condition with head injuries and cuts, and a 19-year-old man was in stable condition with cuts when they were taken by ambulance to a hospital, officials said.
EMS officials advise the public to stay away from rocky ledges and dangerous surf.
