Hawaiian Airlines first again in on-time performance

Hawaiian Airlines posted the best on-time performance in August for the seventh consecutive month among the nation’s 16 largest carriers .

The state’s largest carrier, which also had the second-fewest cancellations, was punctual on 94.3 percent of its flights, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation. A flight is considered on time if it arrivals at its destination within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

The national on-time average for the 16 airlines was 78.8 percent.

Hawaiian ranked second overall in the category of fewest flight cancellations for August at 0.000780 percent, representing five cancellations out of 6,408 total flights. Delta just edged out Hawaiian for first at 0.000736 percent, representing 51 cancellations out of 69,327 flights.

In other categories, Hawaiian ranked fifth for fewest mishandled baggage reports with 2.21 per 1,000 passengers and ninth for consumer complaints with 1.08 per 100,000 passengers.
