The Hawaii basketball team was picked to finish sixth among nine teams in the Big West Conference preseason poll announced today.

UH, which finished fifth last season (17-15 overall, 10-8 BWC), was tabbed by the media to finish behind projected winner UC Irvine, as well as UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, Cal Poly and UC Davis.

Rainbow Warriors senior forward Christian Standhardinger was named to the preseason all-conference team, however, coming off a first-team All-BWC campaign last season.

Five different teams received first-place votes in what’s perceived as a wide-open league this year. Irvine received the most with nine among 24 voters. Even Cal State Northridge, which was picked seventh, received a vote for first. UH did not receive any.

Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside rounded out the voting.

The rest of the six-person preseason first team was LBSU guard Mike Caffey, Irvine forward Will Davis II, Cal Poly forward Chris Eversley, UCD guard Corey Hawkins, and UCSB center Alan Williams.
