Royal Hawaiian Orchards loses $1.2M amid retail snack expansion
Royal Hawaiian Orchards LP swung to a $1.2 million loss in the third quarter from a year-earlier $296,000 profit as it continued to aggressively expand its new retail snack product line in Hawaii and the mainland.
The Hilo-based grower and processor of macadamia nuts said Tuesday that revenue fell 29.7 percent to $4.4 million from $6.3 million as it held back inventory to meet the needs of its new product line rather than selling more nuts raw in the wholesale trade.
