Board defers decision on lease extension for Mauna Kea telescopes
The state Land Board Friday deferred a decision on the University of Hawaii request to extend leases that allow telescopes on Mauna Kea for another 45 years, through 2078.
The state Board of Land and Natural Resources heard testimony on the request today in Honolulu but had to defer the decision due to a loss of quorum.
The university is asking to extend leases for more than 11,000 acres.
