Motorcycle, moped safety, free helmets on agenda at UH

Education on motorcycle and moped safety and 60 free Scorpion helmets will be available at two presentations on the University of Hawaii-Manoa on Tuesday.

The two presentations take place at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the Schidler College of Education building. They are sponsored by the Queen’s Medical Center Trauma Center and the state Department of Transportation.

Seating is available to the first 200 people at each presentation who register on-site by showing proof of ridership through either a current motorcycle driver license or moped registration card, and agreeing to complete surveys. A drawing at each presentation will determine which 30 audience members receive free helmets.

Teachers, staff and administrators at Hawaii public and private schools may request similar presentations by calling Cora Speck at Queen’s at 691-7059.

Queen’s officials estimate approximately 330 college-aged motorcycle and moped riders show up annually at Hawaii emergency rooms as a result of serious injuries sustained in crashes.
