KOCHI, Japan » Hideki Matsuyama has become the first rookie to claim the Japanese tour’s money title with a win at the Casio World Open.

In seven PGA Tour-sanctioned events, Matsuyama has six top-25 finishes. He plans to compete on the PGA Tour in 2014.

Matsuyama, who turned pro in April, shot a 70 in the final round Sunday at Kochi Kuroshio Country Club to finish at 12-under 276.

"It makes me happy to win a tournament and clinch the money title at a course where I practiced golf when I was in middle school and high school," Matsuyama said.

The 21-year-old college student received $390,000 for the win, bringing his earnings this season to slightly more than $2 million.
