A 23-year-old Nuuanu man is in custody after he allegedly assaulted a police officer early Friday morning while he was being arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police said the suspect was stopped at Kapiolani Boulevard and Pensacola Street at 3:37 a.m. for a traffic violation. During the arrest the suspect allegedly assaulted the police officer. Both the suspect and the police officer suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, resisting arresting, assaulting a police officer and drunken driving.
