Schools target UH football coaching alumni
The merry-go-round of former University of Hawaii assistant football coaches might not be over yet.
Army announced today it has hired Georgia Southern head coach Jeff Monken, a former UH graduate assistant coach, to replace Rich Ellerson as the Black Knights’ head coach.
Ellerson is also a former UH assistant and player.
Meanwhile, Georgia Southern has reportedly asked permission to interview Navy offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper, also a former UH quarterback and assistant coach.
Jasper, who played at UH from 1991 through ’93, helping the Rainbow Warriors to the 1992 Holiday Bowl, is also reportedly under consideration for the head coaching vacancy at The Citadel.
"Ivin is very deserving of the interest being shown in him," said Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo. "I would hate to lose him but every assistant dreams of some day becoming a head coach."
