Surf up to 25 feet is expected to pound the north shores of some islands this morning as a high surf warning remains in effect through this evening.

The north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau and the north shore of Maui are covered under the high surf warning. Surf as high as 20 to 25 feet is forecast for north-facing shores this morning, decreasing to 15 to 20 feet this afternoon, according to officials at the National Weather Service. Surf up to 15 to 20 feet is forecast for west-facing shores decreasing to 10 to 14 feet this afternoon.

Weather officials warn beachgoers of strong breaking waves, including large shorebreak, and dangerous rip currents.
