Couple escape Maui house fire without injury
A couple escaped without injury from a Friday night house fire in Paukukako, Maui, that displaced a total of six people.
Maui fire officials said the fire broke out at 590 Kailana St. at about 8:37 p.m. Crews from Wailuku and Kahului responded, arriving at 8:46 p.m., and found a two-story house about 25 percent consumed by flames on the second floor.
A resident woke up her husband who was sleeping in the home when the fire broke out, and they escaped without injury.
Firefighters extinguished the fire at 9:29 p.m.
Six people lived in the house. They will be staying with relatives, a fire department spokesperson said.
No damage estimate was immediately available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
