Hawaiian Airlines sets one-year company record for passengers

Hawaiian Airlines carried more passengers in 2013 than any other time in its 84-year history.

The state’s largest carrier said today it transported 9.9 million passengers last year, up 4.8 percent from a record 9.5 million in 2012.

Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported one mile, increased 12 percent to 13.7 million from 12.2 million while available seat miles, or one seat transported one mile, rose 14.3 percent to 16.8 million from 14.7 million.

Hawaiian’s load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, decreased 1.7 percentage points to 81.5 percent from 83.2 percent.

In December, Hawaiian’s passenger count edged up 0.8 percent to 818,998 from 812,395 in the year-earlier period. Revenue passenger miles rose 4.8 percent to 1.15 million from 1.10 while available seat miles gained 4.4 percent to 1.43 million from 1.37 million. Its load factor rose 0.3 percentage points to 80.2 percent from 79.9 percent.
