Honolulu is the second-most sought-after travel destination for 2014, according to the first State of Travel Report by online travel site Hotwire.com.

Las Vegas was top-ranked.

The Hotwire ranking of 14 destinations highlights the best month to visit each destination, average room rate per night, and the percentage of savings that could be realized over a visit during peak season.

The best month to visit Las Vegas is June, with an average room rate of $84 at an off-peak savings of 6 percent. 

September visits in Honolulu cost an average of $127 a night and save travelers 16 percent over peak season.

It would cost travelers to third-ranked New York City an average of $181 a night during December, at an off-peak savings of 21 percent.

The survey of more than 2,000 adults in the U.S. was conducted in October.
