University of Hawaii students were drenched as an early afternoon shower Monday made them run for cover near the Les Murakami Stadium. National Weather Service forecasters say there’s a slight chance of thunderstorms because of a lingering storm system which is expected to gradually move away over the next few days, and the atmosphere is expected to dry out and stabilize by Wednesday.

Scattered showers are expected to continue over Oahu and other islands through Wednesday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Radar showed most of the showers over Maui and Molokai this morning.

But there is a 50 percent chance of rain today and tonight in Honolulu because of a moisture from a lingering weather system and afternoon cloud buildup. That storm system brought isolated, but heavy showers to Oahu Monday.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for voggy and partly cloudy skies with southwest Kona winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph.

The atmosphere is expected to dry out and stabilize by Wednesday.

Gentle to moderate trade winds should return Thursday. But winds will become light by the weekend and the muggy, Kona weather conditions are expected to return.
