Police are searching for an armed man following a fight in the Palama area that briefly sent Kauluwela Elementary School into lockdown this morning.

The 366-student school was placed in lockdown just after 7:30 a.m. after a witness saw two men fighting, a Department of Education spokesman said. School Principal Clayton Kaninau says the lockdown lasted 45 minutes. He says police told him it was prompted by a fight at the nearby Times Supermarket at Liliha Square, where a handgun was possibly seen.

The suspects fled on foot from the school located at 1486 Aala Street.

The manhunt extended to the Punchbowl-Vineyard area.
