The former food truck Melt served grilled cheese sandwiches and soup at a pop-up lunch at the Taste kitchen in Kakaako.today.
Melt, the popular grilled-cheese food truck that stopped rolling in 2011, took over the brick-and-mortar eatery Taste today to give fans another chance to enjoy its gourmet sandwiches.
Though a crowd was expected, there weren’t long lines or waits on sandwiches. Yet thanks to a consistent flow of customers, the crew sold more than 160 sandwiches, the highest amount ever at Taste, where they popped up three times last year. On the menu was the Dirty Meatball Melt, the classic Triple Melt, the Melto Cristo of ham and cheese, the Piquillo Pepper Melt and a tomato soup that has been standard on the menu.
Melt chef Lindsey Ozawa, now chef of Prima restaurant in Kailua, agreed to bring back his legendary creations to the Kakaako space, and will set up again from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday.
