30-foot plus waves prompt high surf warning
A high surf warning is in effect for north shores of Oahu, Kauai County, Maui and Molokai until 6 a.m. Monday.
Wave faces are expected to be 30 to near 40 feet through Sunday morning, lowering to 25 to 35 feet Sunday afternoon.
West shores of Oahu, Kauai County, Molokai and the Big Island are also under a high surf warning Forecasters expect surf along west facing shores to be 20 to 30 feet through Sunday morning, lowering to 15 to 25 feet Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service said the surf could wash over coastal highways and sweep across beaches.
"Inexperienced persons should remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas," forecasters said. "Large breaking surf, significant shore break and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death."
