Maui Police identified the 23-year-old man who died Monday after falling from a moving pickup truck.

Police said Jared Robello climbed out of the cab of a Toyota Tacoma truck through the rear sliding window into the bed of the truck at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday on the Kula Highway about 1.7 miles south of Kealakapu Road.

Robello fell out of the truck bed while the truck was moving and suffered critical injuries. He died Monday night at the Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said.

The truck was driven by another 23-year-old man.

Robello’s death is the fifth traffic fatality on Maui this year, compared to four at the same time last year.
