Surfing world abuzz over Kelly Slater video

  • A still image from the video shot using Kelly Slater's GoPro camera.

Did professional surfer Kelly Slater come inches away from a shark?

The 11-time world champion denies that he was filmed on camera surfing next to what some believe is a shark in Western Australia, but the vision at 0:56 in the video is stirring speculation and debate in the surfing world.

Slater said he was "100 percent sure" it was just a reflection of another surfer but others have suggested that the mysterious silver shadow in the footage is a great white shark.

The video was filmed using a GoPro camera to show viewers what it’s like to surf a wave from Slater’s perspective.

Some have disputed Slater’s theory and say there are no limbs or contrasting black wetsuit to what could be a white surfboard.
