COURTESY CHRISTOPHER DERIGE MALANO
Christopher Derige Malano of Waipahu found a taste of home last month in a Tarrytown, N.Y., grocery store. Packages of Bubbies Ice Cream — a brand founded in Hawaii in 1985 — caught his eye as he cruised the store aisles. “I was very happy and surprised to see products of Hawaii” in a village so far from home, he said. Keith Robbins, a New York transplant, started Bubbies in a small Moiliili store and now ships ice cream throughout the nation.
