Marc Flores hit his fifth home run of the season and drove in four of Hawaii’s season-high 17 runs as the Rainbow Warriors debuted a brand new scoreboard with a 17-0 shutout of New York Institute of Technology on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Adam Hurley went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored and Kalei Hanawahine had a carer-high four hits with two runs and two RBIs for Hawaii (16-25), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Matt Cooper (4-4) won for the first time since March 28 and tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts in five innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

John Duggan (0-7) took the loss for the Bears (4-37), allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Kaeo Aliviado added three hits and two runs scored and Jordan Richartz went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Flores’ home run was his fifth of the season, which surpassed the four UH hit all of last year.

Catcher Tyler Young started for the second game in a row after missing all of the season returning from shoulder surgery and had two hits and drove in a run.

UH had 20 hits total and scores its most runs in a game since a 19-3 victory over Wagner on Feb. 26, 2012.

Eric Gleese pitched the final four innings and allowed only one hit and no walks with five strikeouts to earn the save.

Jordan Richartz led Hawaii with three runs scored.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3:35 p.m.
