USC quarterback can’t transfer to Hawaii
USC quarterback Max Wittek will not transfer to the University of Hawaii — or any other FBS school — this summer.
Wittek had sought to transfer, with Texas and Hawaii as his top destination choices. But Wittek will not complete work on his bachelor’s degree until December. If he had earned a degree this month, he would have been eligible to transfer without restrictions and play this coming season.
The NCAA requires a player to sit out a season after transferring. One of the exceptions is if a player has earned a bachelor’s degree. If Wittek had met the graduation requirements, he would have had two years to play two seasons at his next school.
Wittek took official recruiting visits to UH and Texas. He also visited Texas twice more on his own, including to attend the Longhorns’ spring game. This week, Texas reportedly decided to stop recruiting Wittek.
UH was holding a scholarship for him.
Ikaika Woolsey and Jeremy Higgins were listed as co-No. 1 quarterbacks on UH’s post-spring depth chart. Taylor Graham, who transferred from Ohio State in January 2012, was limited in spring training while recovering from shoulder surgery. Quarterbacks Beau Reilly, a former Colorado State recruit, who returned from a church mission last year, and Eric Prater, who completed a stint in the Army, will join the Rainbow Warriors this summer.
