A woman found stabbed to death in her Young Street apartment Wednesday has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office as 30-year-old Sheryll Mae Filiaga.

The Medical Examiner’s office said Filiaga bled to death from cuts to the neck and also had stab wounds to the body.

Police have reclassified Filiaga’s case as a murder investigation, but are not looking for a suspect. Police suspect Filiaga’s death is connected to the death of a man in a fiery crash near Wahiawa Monday.

The man who died in that crash is believed to be her 37-year-old husband Eric Filiaga.

Police said a man driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue SUV was seen cutting in and out of traffic on Monday when the driver of the SUV lost control and hit a utility pole at about 6:25 p.m. The SUV landed in a pineapple field and burst into flames.

The driver was burned beyond recognition and the Medical Examiner has not officially identified the victim, but police suspect he was Filiaga.

Eric Filiaga’s relatives said Wednesday that they have been trying to get in touch with him, but have not been able to contact him for a couple weeks.

Court records show the couple divorced in January 2013, but friends say the couple held a wedding ceremony on Maui in February 2013.

Friends said they were not aware of a divorce or of any problems in the relationship.

Police found Sheryll Filiaga’s body after officers checked her apartment about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Filiaga, who also used her maiden name Lacson, worked as a manager at Hawaii 5-0 Vacation Rentals and was a business partner for Opihi Love, a wedding planning business on Maui.

Melissa Padilla, co-owner of Opihi Love, helped organized the Filiaga’s wedding last year.

She was shocked by her business partner’s death.

"They loved each other. That was clear," Padilla said. "She adored him."

"I never thought that in a million years that this would have happened to her," she said. "She didn’t deserve this."
