Hilo’s Kodi Medeiros drafted by Milwaukee Brewers
Recent Waiakea graduate Kodi Medeiros was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday.
Medeiros, a 6-foot-1 left-handed pitcher, is the highest draft pick selected straight out of high school from Hawaii ever.
The slot value for the No. 12 pick is listed at $2,805,700.
Punahou’s Justin Wayne, who attended Stanford and was taken fifth overall by the Montreal Expos in 2000, is the only player from Hawaii drafted higher.
The Kansas City Royals, who had picks 17 and 28, were the team most connected to Medeiros, who worked out in Milwaukee for the Brewers last week.
Medeiros originally committed to Hawaii as a sophomore before changing his mind and signing with Pepperdine last fall.
