Visitors to the Como Town amusement park ride on the 100-year-old Cafesjian’s Carousel in St. Paul, Minn. Parking at the Como Town and adjacent Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is free, but there is a $2 charge to ride the carousel. Disney park adds ‘Frozen’ events
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. » Disney’s Hollywood Studios in central Florida has added to the "Frozen" frenzy by offering a daily character procession, singalongs and a nightly party based on the hit animated movie.
"Frozen Summer Live" — a character-driven procession down the park’s Hollywood Boulevard with Anna, Elsa and Kristoff — began Saturday and runs through Sept. 1. It starts at 11 a.m.
There’s also a new singalong show, a dance party, "Frozen"-themed fireworks, a polar playground, ice skating rink and ice carving demonstrations.
"Frozen" tells the story of how Anna and Elsa overcome Elsa’s terrible power to turn everything into ice and snow.
Slugger museum extending hours
LOUISVILLE, Ky. » The Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is offering evening visitors a discount at the downtown Louisville attraction.
The museum’s Six After Six summer promotion will allow guests to visit the museum for $6 on any tour that begins after 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The promotion runs through Aug. 10.
The museum is showing an exhibit on Warner Bros. cartoons that includes more than 70 original drawings, paintings and related objects used in the making of cartoons from the 1930s through the 1960s.
Tours of Obama garden to restart
WASHINGTON » The White House says tours of Michelle Obama’s produce garden will be operating again soon.
The tours were grounded after mandatory budget cuts went into effect last year. Public tours of parts of the White House also were halted due to the cuts but resumed after President Barack Obama signed legislation funding government operations.
The garden tours are scheduled to resume the week of July 14. They are open to community and school groups that are interested in gardening and healthy eating.
The first lady planted the garden in 2009 to help begin a national conversation about health and wellness and to inform her anti-childhood obesity initiative. The fruits and veggies grown there are served in meals at the White House.
Interested groups must fill out an application at www.whitehouse.gov/about/tours_ and_ events/garden.
