Customers entered the new downtown Walmart on Wednesday.

Walmart opened its downtown Honolulu store on Wednesday at 8 a.m., taking over the space previously occupied by Macy’s and Liberty House at 1032 Fort Street Mall.

The company had a traditional Hawaiian blessing and maile lei untying to mark the opening. The new store will open from 6 a.m to 10 p.m. daily.

The store’s manager is Ray Griego, who began his career with Walmart in Hawaii 17 years ago as a cashier at Kunia Walmart. The store has approximately 150 staff.
