A 25-year-old man fell and died from a remote part of the Na Pali Coast during a hike at Kalalau Trail.

A hiker died and another man was injured after an accident on a remote Na Pali Coast trail on Kauai.

A 25-year-old man apparently fell from the Kalalau Trail Thursday night, according to a Coast Guard news release.

The Coast Guard launched an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Barbers Point at 11:45 p.m. and rerouted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to the scene.

The Dolphin crew arrived on scene at 12:04 a.m. Friday and lowered a rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer conducted CPR for 30 minutes, but the man was unresponsive.

The rescue swimmer remained with the other four members of the hiking party while the helicopter refueled in Lihue.

The MH-65 Dolphineturned to the scene and retrieved the rescue swimmer and a hiker who injured his leg. The injured hiker was met by an emergency medical crew at Lihue Airport at 2:30 a.m., the Coast Guard news release said.

A Kauai Fire Department helicopter airlifted the remaining hikers Friday and firefighters hiked in to recover the body of the hiker who died.
