A 4-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in a car parked in a lot at an apartment complex in Lahaina. 

Police said the child was found at about 1 p.m. Friday at the Honokowai Kauhale  located at 3500 Lower Honoapiilani Road. Police, fire and paramedics responded to the scene. She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center where she later died. 

Police issued a statement that the child, “was not accidentally left in a hot vehicle, and the incident was reported by a parent.” 

An autopsy will take place to determine the exact cause of death.
