No charges yet in alleged murder attempt
Police have not yet charged a 47-year-old man accused of injuring three officers Wednesday in Central Oahu, pending an ongoing investigation.
The man remained in custody on a parole violation.
He was arrested at 11:13 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, resisting an order to stop and a parole violation.
Officers initially stopped the vehicle on Ohai Place in Wahiawa at 11 a.m. Wednesday because of expired registration and safety tags, police spokeswoman Teresa Bell said.
The driver stopped in a private driveway at a Wahiawa home, and officers approached the car.
That is when the driver allegedly tried to run over one of the officers, Bell said in an email.
Detectives said he accelerated toward the officers, hitting one with the car, while the other officer jumped out of the way.
The officers pursued the vehicle to Mililani, where the man turned into oncoming traffic and crashed into a light post on Makaimoimo Street near Lanikuhana Avenue, police said.
The car broke down and stopped on a nearby street, police said.
When the man got out of his car and tried to flee, the officers arrested him. Police said he became combative and injured two officers.
Police also arrested his juvenile female passenger on unrelated charges.
Robbers stormed into home, women say
Two men robbed two women, ages 64 and 50, at their Puna house Wednesday night, Hawaii County police said.
The women heard loud noises and a man yelling "police" at about 8 p.m. outside their house in the Fern Forest subdivision of Mountain View.
The younger woman said the two men forced their way in and demanded money. One man wielded a batlike object, took an undisclosed amount of money and the woman’s cellphone and fled.
The 64-year-old told police her purse and its contents were stolen.
The women reported hearing gunshots from the roadway fronting the house after the suspects left, police said.
The men drove off in separate cars, one in a light-colored sedan, the other in a dark-colored sedan.
The man with the batlike object was described as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and was wearing jeans, a dark blue baseball cap, a black hoodie and a blue-and-white bandanna over his face.
The victims did not see the second suspect, so could not provide a description, police said.
No one was injured.
