The beach area of Hanauma Bay will reopen to the public at 11 a.m. Thursday after staff members found the source of a water leak and began repairs.

Public access to the beach at the nature preserve was closed after the discovery of a large leak in a potable water pipe at about 7:30 a.m.

All potable water was shut off, including to the restrooms, at the beach level of the bay while the leak was investigated, according to the city Department of Parks and Recreation.

The upper level, visitor’s center, overlook and commercial lot remained open as usual, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.
