Hawaii land board to consider limits on uhu, other fish
State fishing regulators are considering new bag and size limits for parrotfish, or uhu, and types of weke, or goatfish, caught off the island of Maui.
The Board of Land and Natural Resources will consider the rules at a meeting on Friday.
The proposed rules would establish a bag limit of no more than two uhu or parrotfish and prohibit the take of blue male uhu.
There would also be bag limits for three popular goatfish: kumu, moana kea and munu.
Public hearings on the draft rules were held on Maui and Lanai last November.
Draft rules for papio, ulua and other fishes aren’t included in the proposed amendments.

Draft rule changes for Lanai fishing were also removed. The department says it will work with the Lanai community to develop rule changes in the near future.
