LAS VEGAS >> Freeway lanes were closed for several hours near the Las Vegas Strip to allow bomb squad robots to examine a suspicious package in the median of busy Interstate 15.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson says all five southbound lanes were closed about 1 p.m. Thursday after the duffel-style bag was found in a travel lane of the freeway near Tropicana Avenue.

Traffic was detoured to side streets and routed around the scene while robots approached, X-rayed and opened the bag.

Hixson says it was found to contain harmless personal items and was removed a little after 4 p.m.

It wasn’t clear whether the bag was discarded or fell from a vehicle.

No damage or injuries were reported.
