Storm brings October snow to Hawaii island mountains
Several inches of snow fell Monday afternoon and evening and covered summit roads until temperatures rose late Tuesday morning.
“Snow and freezing fog overnight has left the summit road icy,” the National Weather Service said in a winter weather advisory early Tuesday. “The icy road will make driving hazardous until temperatures rise high enough to melt the ice.”
The summit road reopened by about 11:12 a.m. and the National Weather Service dropped the advisory. Snow remained on the ground in the early afternoon.
Temperatures at the summit Tuesday afternoon were in the high 30s.
